The Ultimate Rejection Letter

A colleague emailed me this which I thought was hilarious.

Herbert A. Millington
Chair - Search Committee
412A Clarkson Hall, Whitson University
College Hill, MA 34109

Dear Professor Millington,

Thank you for your letter of March 16. After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me an assistant professor position in your department.

This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field of candidates, it is impossible for me to accept all refusals.

Despite Whitson's outstanding qualifications and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my needs at this time. Therefore, I will assume the position of assistant professor in your department this August. I look forward to seeing you then.

Best of luck in rejecting future applicants.

Sincerely,

Chris L. Jensen

Macallan 15 Years Appreciation Night

Last night, some colleagues and I were invited for Macallan 15 Years Appreciation Night at Sevenatenine.  Free flow of single malt whiskey for RM87 nett, is definitely worth it. Pouring was from 7-9PM and served with unlimited amount of tapas by the side. Once the pouring was over, we still didn’t have enough and we ordered another bottle of Black Label just to “quench” our taste buds. So needless to say we were all feeling a little tipsy by 10-ish.

Dear Mom...

You make the sun shine on a cloudy day
When I'm sick you kiss the pain away
Your tender voice took away my fears
Your hand that wiped away my tears
The love you give so honest and pure
Keeping me forever safe and secure
You make flowers bloom in the spring
It was you who fixed my broken wing
Mom because of you I now know love
My guardian angel from above

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

I MISS YOU...I LOVE YOU!

William & Mei Yee

I got to know Mei Yee about 5 years ago on the first day of work during my time at Wavex Technologies. It was both our first day at work then and I was a Senior Web Programmer and she was my Programmer. On our first day, we got to know each other as both our PC's weren't ready yet, and we were placed in a conference room together with 2 other new people. I best remember Mei Yee for taking sick leave just on the second day of work, and me and the 2 other people thought she quit because there was still nothing to do. But alas, she returned the next day, and since then a bond was formed. We kept in touch ever since, even after she left the company.

Ex colleagues: Chee Way & Mei Yee

I remembered my other colleagues (now ex colleagues) and I, used to tease and bully her on a daily basis because she was the only female in the team. We always joked about her switching boyfriends and never seem to settle down for one due to her high expectations (was it like 3 bfs??...lost count). Anyway, on Sunday, she finally found "the one" who meets all her expectations. I don't personally know William that well as I've only met him twice at most before they got married, but he seems to be a really nice guy and someone who can keep up with her high demands (hehe...kidding Mei Yee..). I'm really happy for you Mei Yee. So to the happy couple...CONGRATULATIONS WILLIAM & MEI YEE!!!

Cathy Nguyen

Who is she? Well, I just came across a video of hers by accident on YouTube today when I saw this cute girl performing a cover of Jason Mraz's "Lucky". The first thing that struck me was....she is cute! She performed it with another guy named Aj Rafael (Jason Mraz'z song is a duet with Colbie Caillat) in a bathroom because it supposedly gives them a "more acoustic" sound. And MY GOD...that voice!!! She is not only cute but this girl can also sing!....it was like a "love at first sight" moment!

A Tasty Secret

It's now 145AM in the morning. I bet you would never guess what I'm doing right now. I'm still awake, blogging...and looking for cooking recipes! Yes, you heard me right. Now before you go "OMFG....NICK COOKS??!!" and wonder whether or not if I can actually cook, well...I would ask anyone (who dares) to swing by my place to give it a try and be the judge. Honestly, if anyone knew me, I've always like to cook....just that I don't like to do the preparations and clean up after that (who would?) and many a times, I'm just lazy.

Ever since moving to my new place, I've always tried to "cook" something over the weekend because that's the only time I would have to "prepare-cook-clean". Cooking for me is always nostalgic as it always reminded me of my late mother. When I was a lot younger, I used to be a busy body whenever my mom cooks, so I guess I picked up a thing or two from her...at least on how to prepare certain things, ingredients, do's and don't's...

Well I may not be the world's greatest cook, but I definitely at the very least, know how to fry an egg properly and cook fried rice without actually burning the food or the house down (Hey, I know of some girls who can't even fry an egg or cook rice ok!).

Ok, now seriously...I'm trying to keep it simple as I only am cooking for myself...unless of course you want to come by and help me out. Last week, I experimented with some ingredients and I made come Garlic Chicken, Omelette and Stir Fried Vegetables. It's enough if you're just eating for one. So anyway, I'm now looking for new stuff to cook over the weekend.

So far, I'm thinking of trying to cook Paella which is a Spanish dish which consists of rice, chicken, seafood, vegetable, saffron and other spices. A rather simple dish to make but I bet it would be a lot of work to prepare. It's either that or Rosti, which is a Swiss Potato Pancake...also relatively easy to make and prepare.

So looks like I have to go grocery shopping soon before the weekend...anyone wants to be my tasting guinea pig this weekend?

Diana Krall Concert Tickets

Diana Krall

Woohoo! Diana Krall is coming to Kuala Lumpur...and I just got tickets to watch her perform on 2nd October at KL Convention Centre. I managed to gather a few friends to go watch it with me, and in total...I had to buy like 11 tickets during my lunch break today. The cheapest tickets were going for RM288 and if you're a Visa card holder, you get it at RM262.20. Quite pricey for a concert ticket if you ask me, considering it's like the cheapest and the farthest from the stage...but hey...it's Diana Krall wei! So you can imagine the guy at the ticket counter asking me for a second time if he had heard correctly that I wanted 11 tickets. According to him, at most people buy 3 at a time...because it's expensive...and I'm the first person who wanted more than 10 tickets at one go! Well, that's what you get when you got to be the one who buys for a bunch of jazz lovers.

Diana Krall concert tickets

can you count how many tix there are?...hehehe

Anyway, for the price I'm paying, it better not be a disappointment.
