I'm Officially Unemployed

That's right! It is officially my first day being unemployed. Yup, so being unemployed means I am able to do the things that I didn't have time to do while being employed. So first thing I did....I went to renew my passport as it expires in January 2008, that means I can't get out of the country because it's less than 6 months of validity.

I woke up early this morning because I wanted to get it done earlier so I can get to do other stuff for the day. Also because of pure "kiasu-ism", I was anticipating that there was going to be a long queue. Can you blame me? I mean, going to any government offices here can be a really bad experience where one have to wait for hours just to get things done. What more it is the fasting month?! But to my surprise, everything went smoothly and I didn't even have to wait! Wow! I was actually impressed by how helpful they were when it came to filling up the form, guiding me to the appropriate counter and letting me know what to do next. I was like "is this for real??" Ok, maybe I didn't give our government workers credit before, but honestly, it was really a different thing since the last time I was there. I came in at around 815am, filled in a form, get my picture taken, photocopy my IC and made the payment. All that took?..15 mins! - I kid you not! I was then told to come back in 2 hours to collect it. So I went to have my breakfast and walked around a bit, and 2 hours later (in fact it was less that 2 hours, it was about 1 hour 45 mins), I went back to pick up my brand spanking new passport without even queing up! So total time it took? 2 hours 15 mins! Impressive by Malaysian standards considering it took a whole day to get this done the last time.

So, ever wondered how my passport picture looks like? Here they are, the old one and the new one for your entertainment/amusement purpose:

I don't know is it the picture or do you think I lost a bit of weight? =p HAHA! Well, I got to get some things done and will have a social event to attend tonight. Will write about it in my next entry. Stay tuned!

A "Secret" Revealed

I bet I caught your attention with the title eh? Well actually it's not THAT big of a secret, but I have been extremely low key about the situation. Some of you reading this will already know that coming Wednesday (19 September) will be my last day in my current company.

Why?
Well because I just felt I needed a change of environment, as I am starting to feel things are getting a bit mundane and I needed something new and different. Plus the place I'm going to are able to offer me what I'm asking for (for now at least...hehe). So why not right? It will be a very good learning curve for me as I will be taking on a dual role in that company, having more decision making responsibilities in terms of building the company, which is a good thing.

Where?
Haha! This is the million dollar question many people have been asking. Let's just say, it's a company that consists of many young talents. The people who I will soon call my colleagues are relatively young (even my boss is younger than I am I think)...but well, I guess they have more experience than I do in this industry. I won't reveal as yet, simply because it's against my working ethics to do so (the company is a direct competitor to my current company...so you know what I mean). But all will be reveal once I start there on 1st October...promise!

Risk or Opportunity?
Well, every decision has its pros and cons. The risk of course is this company is a smaller company than the one I'm leaving. Another risk is that the team are all very young, which makes you wonder about their experience, capabilities and commitments. On the plus side, I bring with me experience from a bigger company having dealt with bigger corporate clients and accounts. One of my deciding factor was also because I saw potential and room for growth as I have more decision making authority there. Also, having a young team means that people can see things from your perspective.

In the mean time..
Well between 20th September and 1st October, I will have a good 10 days or so off from work. I have nothing confirmed as yet, but I think I might take a trip to some place, either alone or with who ever is interested to join me. Will play by ear on that. So who knows, I might even come find you for lunch and catch up! hehe..

So there! It's not a "secret" anymore. To all my business partners, clients and colleagues who are reading this, don't have to worry, I will be still be contactable via my mobile and MSN. So in case there is chaos, you can still give me a call anytime (but will charge consultation fees already..hehe...kidding). Heck, I will still drop by for lunches or to have drinks with you guys after work la! So don't think I am ditching you guys ok? Until then..

Robyn

Do you remember the Swedish pop singer-songwriter known as Robyn? Well she was known in the late nineties for her dance-pop hits 'Show Me Love' and 'Do You Know [What It Takes]'. She has since started to gain mainstream success in the United Kingdom again, due to the massive critical and commercial success of her single 'With Every Heartbeat'.

'Robyn' is the fourth album by Swedish singer Robyn, originally released on Robyn's own label, Konichiwa Records in April 2005 in Sweden. The UK version was released on April 2nd 2007 with different cover art.

Here are the track listings:
01 Curriculum Vitae
02 Konichiwa Bitches
03 Cobrastyle
04 Handle Me
05 Bum Like You
06 Be Mine
07 With Every Heartbeat [With Kleerup]
08 Who's That Girl

09 Bionic Woman
10 Crash And Burn Girl
11 Robotboy
12 Eclipse
13 Should Have Known
14 Anything You Like
15 Jack U Off

Well, if you're thinking that this album sounds like another one of those teen pop albums...think again. The album has a lot of catchy tunes. Personally I like the second track (Konichiwa Bitches) and I promise you that if you were to have this CD in your car, you will be bouncing to the beat while you drive (I know I did)

My rating: 4/5
Sounds similar to: a cross between Missy Elliot + Gwen Stefani + Britney Spears! (go figure)

My Sick Day

Finally, my body gave up on me today. After a few weeks of late nights at the office and parties, my body decided to go on strike. Yea..I'M SICK! I woke up this morning feeling so darn shitty, as I felt feverish and achings all over my body. I called in sick to the office. I then went to see a doctor to get some meds. OMG! You won't believe one kid at the clinic! I seriously doubt that the kid is sick man because she was so hyper screaming her lungs out and running all over the place! Gees...and their parents didn't even stop her. Honestly, I think the parents are the ones who are sick not their kid because of having severe brain trauma, thanks to that kid of theirs. Either that, or they are really taking the kid to see the doctor to ask the doctor to give her meds to reduce her hyper-ness! Seriously! At that moment I just felt like telling the parents to 'Please control your kid! This is a clinic you idiot!'. However, I was too darn weak to do so. Anyway, after they called that kid's name, she went in, and it was back to how a clinic should be.

The doc gave me some muscle relaxant and vitamins. I took them, and later, I was like one a tranquilized elephant. I was asleep most of the time, but my office and clients kept calling me and I had no choice but to put my mobile phone on silent. Well, on a brighter side, I heard that today, the internet and email server was down at the office. Imagine going to work with no internet!?? So it was kinda like a blessing in disguise too in a way. Oh well, there will be a lot of shit for me to clear tomorrow at the office. I'm just hoping it's not a lot. Pray for me!

Merdeka!

Hey loyal readers! As you can see, I haven't really been updating my blog of late. This is because I was really really busy with work and was litterally 'camping' in the office for the past few weeknights! Yes! CAMPING! Thanks to our brilliant client, we needed to complete a website in just 3 days!! This is from the planning, back end mechanics, designs, copywriting and testing! Talk about pressure and stress! I think this is by far my worse ever week in my working career. I mean, an entire website from scratch in just 3 days??!! I dare anyone to try and top this!

Well, even so, you can bet I was really dreading for the long weekend. It was Merdeka eve night and I was still stuck in the office till about 11:15PM. Thankfully, we manage to pull it off and leave, just in time for the countdown. Well I went to Wabisabi again, as some of my friends were there. So I only had 2 glasses of stout, and called it a night as I was really bummed out by 2am. The rest of them continued partying without me.

Friday night...
Friday night me, Ashlin, Ee Laine, Shi Ying and David went to Little Havana to check out the Salsa scene. It wasn't my first time there but it was the first time I been upstairs to watch people...well..SALSA! I got to say it was quite interesting. I met my friend Josephine there as well and she offered to teach me a few basic steps. Errm...sorry to dissapoint you folks but I don't think you will ever catch me doing Salsa...hehe.. Later on, we went bar hopping and finally adjourned to Jalan Alur to have supper.

Saturday night..
I met up Josephine again for dinner at Alexis BSC, as it has been really a long time since we both caught up with each other (not counting the night before of course). It was really fun and it turned into a 2 hour long dinner simply because we just have so much to catch up on. Later on, she invited me over to Vintry to meet some of her friends for wine. A glass of wine later, I had to leave as I was 'summoned' to Bar Blonde. I had a blast as I met up with Zara and gang, together with my 2 partners in crime for the night, Ashlin and Ee Laine.

I will leave you now with some pictures from the night.
