Malaysia Airlines, Shame On You!

This is with regards to this article on The Star newspaper on Sunday. I wouldn't thought this would happened to my sister who was suppose to be on a Sunday 10:20pm flight back to Melbourne, but guess what?? The flight wasn't only delayed, they didn't even issue a boarding pass to 60+ passengers who were suppose to be on that flight! Their reason??? Because they implemented a new visa checking system, and things got screwed up!! WTF??!! They can have the cheek to tell angry passengers that their tickets are not valid as their flights were already full, and they were part of a group that was taken out because the earlier flight had the same problem, and passengers from that eariler flight took their seats!

Needless to say, there were a "mini riot" that happened, until there were police around.

Upset passengers when they were told their names have be taken out from the flight

A "mini riot" in the making

I think MAS staff and especially the manager on duty that night were very unlucky because they manange to piss a few "big" people out of that 60+ passengers. One was a lawyer who literally shouted and cursed at the manager. He also threaten to sue MAS and take legal action on the manager who made the decision to not issue them a boarding pass, Another lady was journalist who swore to make complaints to all newspaper publications and even the media. I think you can imagine the commotion that time. The lawyer wanted MAS to compensate him because his son will miss classes on that day. Not only that, he demanded that MAS took care and arranged for transportation for his son from the airport to where ever college his son is in!

The good thing is, most of the 60+ people who were affected, came together to make a complaint. There was even one lecturer from Monash Uni, who needs to be in class the next day! Everyone came together and "joined forces" to demand a solution. But there is nothing the MAS staff can do about it. After nearly an hour on tongue-lashing, the manager couldn't even answer anymore. His eyes were a little red an he just stood there dumb founded. Then came the compensation. They were told to go to another counter to get the compensation. The thing is, the compensation is RM400, plus a free hotel accomodation. But guess where the accomodation is?? THE MINES HOTEL! Who in the right mind would book a hotel all the way there for only a few hours?!!. Their excuse? Pan Pacific hotel is fully booked!

Mother-Fs were heard everywhere, and accordingly, they were suppose to compensate each passenger USD 400 NOT RM 400, as the earlier batch got that amount! So what did everyone do? Well, they all decided NOT to take their stupid excuse for a compensation, and take this to court! NO I'm serious! All those who were affected exchanged name cards and did not take the compensation. They will take legal action on MAS for their screw up. Serves them right as they were pretty unlucky to be pissing a lawyer and a journalist. So if you see this on the newspapers or on the news, don't forget, you heard it from here first.

So in the end, my sister had to wait for the next flight which is on Monday 10:15am to be back in Melbourne. MAS SHAME ON YOU!

Hi, I was surfing the net trying to find any recent Malaysia airline news and came across your blog.

I reckon that was really bad management. However, today I experienced something even worse. As you may already know MAS always lie to customers about seats availability to increase their price but what I experience just few hours back was much worse.

I'm holiding an open ticket and wanted to reserve a flight back. However, the Melbourne office told me that they are fully booked and with my Class M economy I can only fly before 22 november or on January.

I have to pay for an upgrade if I want to fly closer to my chosen date to a similar economy seat but Class K. However, if I want to fly on my intended date, I can only opt for business class.

I found it suspicious and check online for seat availability and true enough, there are seats available. I also phoned up MAS HQ in KL and I asked for a return ticket from KL. (return date 21st Dec). Guess what? The ticket cost RM 10,460. I even asked 4 times to confirm whether it is on economy. (The online one way Melb-KL is 900+AUD)

I already paid for the ticket and I have the right to ask for a date which is clearly not fully book. Worse still, they are selling the tickets for shocking prices.

Do you know whether they manage to file a case against MAS? What about other cases?

It'll be great if you could reply me, just leave a message in my blog or email.

Thanks!

Erin
