You know sometimes, going to a chinese wedding dinner could really be a headache to some. I know of some people would actually go to the extend to spend money for a new dress or clothing and accessories, just for the occasion. Yes, I know everyone wants to look good, but come on, it's just a wedding dinner plus its NOT your wedding! You don't want to outshine the happy couple of the night now would you? Having said that, there is another headache during these times. 'The Saman'!! That's right. It is customary to give red packets as a form of good luck and well wishes to the new couple on the night of the dinner. So how much should we be giving then?? Well, for starters, it really depends on how well you know the couple. The closer you are to the couple, the more you need to give. Then it also depends on the venue. I came up with this genius idea of a rate card (I wonder why no one thought of it). So there should be no more headaches thinking of how much to give. Refer to the below table:
But like i said, it also depends on how well or how close you are to the couple. You are always welcome to give more, but I think the table can be used as a guideline. This is picture taken with some friends during a wedding dinner I attended on Saturday night.

Gary, Justin, Keith, Me and Wang Teck
The venue was Renaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. So from the rate card, how much you think should be the appropriate value?
