3 Birthdays, A Wedding & A Cultural Event

It has been a rather busy weekend for me. It started out on Friday night, where there were 2 of my friends who were celebrating their birthdays on the same day. After work, I met up with Ashley and some friends for dinner in an Italian restaurant called Caff Restaurant (* links to a random blog site) at Bandar Puteri Puchong, which coincidently happens to be owned by one of her friend. The food was not bad at all, but it was located in a rather secluded area, so not many people know about it. Needless to say, it was still fun when the alcohol came by.

After dinner, I had to head down all the way to The Loft on Heritage Row for another birthday celebration. This time, it was my old friend Elaine's party. Well, you don't think you can expect to go to a place like The Loft on your birthday and come out standing do you? That was exactly what happend to Elaine. Well Elaine, I hoped you had a blast that night....if you remember the last parts of it..hehe..

"Nooooo...not another one!!"

Saturday night. There was another birthday gathering. Well actually, it's a belated birthday gathering for Lyn, since her birthday was actually last week. You see...some people celebrate her birthday in Krabi by the beach (tsk tsk..), so she had to do it on Saturday night at WIP @ BSC. It was fun seeing her unwrapping her presents..

All of us @ WIP

Sunday morning, I picked Lyn up from her place and we went down to KLPAC for their Open Day. They had loads of cultural performances and workshops from morning way up till 5PM. Unfortunatly, both Lyn and myself can't stay that long as we both had other plans. The highlight of the day was definately the tour of KLPAC, where we got to go backstage and see what goes on behind the scenes during performances. We went up to the lighting room, the locker rooms and even up on the catwalk area high above!

Later that night, I had a wedding dinner to attend. My ex-classmate Julian got married, and their wedding reception was held at JW Marriott hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Congrats Julian & Alesia! It was also sort of a mini high school reunion too as I caught up with a lot of my ex-classmates and friends.

Mini high school reunion??

Phew!....so that was my weekend. Next up, it's my brother's wedding. So looking forward to another busy weekend again...so stay tuned for that.

Disgruntlement: The Death of My N80

Sighs! It is official, my N80 finally died. Well, at least it cannot function properly for normal usage. All I see on my screen now is a white background with no interface, therefore making it totally useless. I think this is a common problem with slider phones as it has something to do with wear and tear issues. The phone is about 1 and half years old and I’m a heavy phone user. My backup phone which is an O2 Xphone II, wasn’t much help either. You see, the reason I bought the N80 was because the O2 couldn’t really function properly. A few of the keys on the keypad are jammed making it hard if not impossible to access key menus like creating text messages. I can still make and receive calls normally though but I can’t reply nor create text messages.

It was when looking for another phone from others to use when I just realized that I can’t do that because all my contacts are stored on my phone’s memory and not my SIM card. I bet you will be asking….why can’t I use the phone to copy the contacts to the SIM right?...Well, there are 2 reasons. First, I can’t access the copy menu due to the jammed keys. Second, even if I could, my SIM card can’t store all of my numbers (I have about 400+ contacts). Right now, I managed to copy a backed up address book from my laptop into the O2’s phone memory, so I still get to browse through my contacts. Only thing, I CAN’T DO TEXT MESSAGES!!...can you see my frustration here??!!!!@%#&@!!!

Time to get a new phone? Maybe not...again, due to financial constraints and limitations, I think its better bet for me to revive the N80. If you know me well enough, you would know I would never settle for a downgraded phone or any gadget for that matter even if it’s cheap. I will only upgrade but never downgrade…so yes...stubborn me. Sigh!…I really hope it’s not going to cost a bomb to repair it. But for now, I shall stick with my O2. So if for some reason I don’t reply your text messages, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Weekend Addiction

A lot of people have asked me.."Why do I sleep so late?? Are you working??" Well...not exactly. Of late, I have been following a lot of TV series, all thanks to the influence of friends and fellow colleagues and I got to say, it's a really REALLY good way to kill time, and IT'S FUCKING ADDICTIVE!! I can spend the whole weekend locked up in my room watching, with the air conditioning on, munching on snacks (and occasionally alcohol) and in the comfort of my bed. It also does help if your PC is hooked up to an entertainment system which creates a better viewing experience ;)

These are some of the series that I'm currently following:

1. Dexter (Season 1 & 2)
2.
Desperate Housewives (Season 4)
3. Nip/Tuck (Season 5)
4. Smallville (Season 7)
5.
Cashmere Mafia (Season 1)
6. The 4400 (Season 3 & 4)
7. The L Word (Season 5)
8.
Gossip Girl (Season 1)

So as you can see, I literally can be a hermit crab and stay in my shell for the whole weekend distancing myself from the world. Oh, and on top of all these TV series, I also got loads of downloaded movies to watch as well. Which reminds me...let me know if anyone wants any of the series above. Okok...I'm off now to watch some now.... :p

Will You Marry Me??...Please?

POST UPDATE (updated Jan 20):
Just a few days after this post, I forgotten I had another wedding dinner next week before my brother's, and gotten another 2 more invitations with one being in Singapore, bringing this year's total to 9!! Shit...ang pow also now have to give in SGD...FUCK I'm going to be SO BROKE! :(

Marriage - the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments. Lately there seems to be an influx of people I know getting married or engaged. Well, I think it’s quite normal for people my age, as I’m not getting any younger either. But the question is…WHY?

Why do people get married? Is it an elevated social status? Is it a MUST to get married in your lifetime? Is it due to peer pressure? Is it if you don’t, people look down on you? Well, whatever the reason maybe, some people do marry or say “Yes!” for the wrong reasons, which I think it’s really sad. These people normally end up in a divorce settlement rather than living happily ever after. Just yesterday, I called a friend out for dinner, to which she replied “Sorry I can’t…I’m attending a wedding dinner tonight” Hmm…a wedding dinner on a Wednesday night? How odd. So then I asked “Who gets married on a Wednesday night?” to which my friend replied “Mr. X loh” I was like “WTF?!!!...Mr. X is married?!! When did this happened?” You see, the reason I was so surprise was because I know this Mr. X person. Although I’m not close to him, he is always the “playful” type and never once did I portray him as marriage material at so young nor a potential father figure. The last I heard, he was getting “close” to another friend of mine while he is still dating his girlfriend…so you get the idea. Turns out, he got a “Buy one free one” promotion (his girlfriend got knocked up!). Sigh, and for that he has to marry the poor girl. Honestly, I wish him all the best, but you can’t help but think disaster in the future.

This year alone, I think I have about a minimum of 6 weddings to attend! Not that I don’t like weddings, but sometimes you just can’t help but wonder why the sudden rush. Some of the people getting married are even a few years younger than I am. My younger brother will be getting married in about 2 weeks from now, which I am extremely happy for him. My brother has been with my future sister-in-law for probably 8 years now, and it’s about time too. Which again makes me wonder…is it because someone cannot say “No” that they have to say “Yes”? Is it because you have already been with that someone for so long and it’s a “waste” to just say no? Don’t get me wrong here; I have nothing against my brother getting married. I’m just illustrating an honest opinion in general. It seems to be an “in thing” nowadays that people want to get married. The question is, are they really ready for it?

Another question I sometimes ask: is she marrying him just because of his money or good looks? Or does he marry her because she is pretty, easy to manipulate and is his ultimate trophy to show off? Does the law say you have to be married to be together forever? Well, of course if you’re planning a family, then that would be the legal way. Is it because parents or relatives keeps bugging you during reunion dinners and keeps asking that age old question “When are you getting married?” and you do so just to shut them up?

I came across this one person who actually says he needs to get married soon because his dad is ill and might not live for long and wants grand children before he dies. WHAT??!! Get married just because of that? Well, I understand it’s out of respect to ones parents and if the couple are ready to get married then yes go ahead, but seriously, if the couple just got together not too long ago, this would be one big no-no! But yet again, some people do it anyway! I just don’t understand. Does one live to fulfill their parents wishes at the expense of their own welfare?

Hey, it’s not that I’m feeling left out or anything like that. Trust me; I think marriage would not be in my list of priorities at the moment. But that doesn’t mean I do not want to get married either. Even having a relationship for that matter, it’s not necessary for now. I have been through enough shitty and heartbreaking relationships to even consider starting another one right now. It’s just so tiring sometimes to see all your hard work and sacrifices all go to waste. Of course someday I also don’t rule out the possibility of having one either…if the right one comes along and if chemistry happens…why not?

Well, this just something that’s brewing in my mind at the moment, with the sudden count increase of wedding “saman” I have this year. To all those who are engaged and getting married this year, I like to say CONGRATULATIONS and all the best to you.

Note: The author did not intend to question the integrity and legitimacy to those already married / engaged, and is merely speaking his mind. Anyone who felt offended and took this post personally is definitely and obviously in a problematic relationship.

Absolut Alcoholic

As some of you may already know, I have a stash of alcohol in my room. Yes yes, I do collect them, but NO I don't drink them except for occasions. Well, my latest addition to the collection was this limited edition Absolut Disco bottle, which is this year's holiday packaging. Thanks Jill for getting me this. The cool thing about this, is it can be used as a "disco ball" which can be hung from the ceiling.

Look how the bottle reflects light...cool!
(pic from absolut.com)

Behold my alcohol stash in my room!

Ok, so now I got a few unopened bottles and also a few opened ones...

Opened bottles:
Chivas Regal 12 Years (3/4 bottle)
Absolut Raspberri (1/4 bottle)
Absolut Citron (1/4 bottle)

Unopened bottles:
Absolut Disco (Absolut Vodka - 1 Litre)
Absolut Mandarin (1 Litre)
Jack Daniels (1 Litre)
Bacardi Limon (1 Litre)
Glenfiddich Single Malt 15 Years (1 Litre)
Appleton Jamaican Rum (500ml)

So as you can see if anyone needs someone to bring the booze as ammunition to a party, you know who to look for right?....so do I hear more invites to parties soon?? *wink*

NYE 2007

Last Monday night, it's not only NYE, it was also Zara's birthday. So obviously, it's a double reason to celebrate (and drink!). Seeing that everyone will be at the major countdown hotspots in the Klang Valley, we actually wanted to have a small celebration with a group of friends at Zara's place. But after giving a lot of thought about the mess and cleaning up the aftermath, we decided to have it at a bar/bistro called Studio-X who is runned by one of Zara's friends in Taman Desa. Well, having it there means that we do not have to get stuck in traffic, suffocate amongst the sea of humans....and most importantly....CHEAP ALCOHOL! It's also very near Zara's place so she can't use the excuse that she has to drive back...because technically...she can even walk back (if she can walk by the end of the night that is..)

Here are the pics from that night:

This is Zara the birthday girl...now still cute..wait till later

"What?!! One more??!!!!" - Not so cute now eh? =p

Well it was a rather fun and "quiet" night. We didn't see fireworks go off because we were seeing our own"fireworks" already when the lights became fuzzy and blurry...Zara..hope you had a blast...and yea..this is pay back for what you done to me on my birthday!...revenge is sweet!
